Richard trained as a classical pianist and recorder player as a child, became a chorister and then, after leaving college, a full-time music teacher.
He started playing the accordion and singing when he joined the folk scene in the early seventies, being a regular at the Wessex Traditional Folk Club.
For twenty years he played with Diggory Venn, an English folk dance band, and also found time to play for Morris and long sword dancing.
He has taught folk dancing in schools and has even been known to call at dances when pressed!
In the nineties Richard became a member of Triskele, a Weymouth-based folk group that performs anything from Dylan to Brel.
He provides keyboard and accordion accompaniments as well as vocals.
Since his retirement from the classroom he has played for many ceilidh bands, including Agglestone and Murphy's Lore.
He still performs as a soloist in folk clubs and is a member of the Warwick Slade Collective.
In recent years Richard has begun playing Klezmer and has now formed a trio called Klezmerconcordion which aims at bringing the music to a wider audience.
